Homeland Season 4 begins with Carrie (Claire Danes) authorizing a drone strike in Pakistan.
Carrie is then summoned to Pakistan to be debriefed on the attack, and reunited with too-good-to-be-true agent Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend).
And we learn why she's not working in Turkey, which was the plan when Season 3 ended.
Sure, it's a bigger and better job. But not being able to bring the daughter she never wanted probably had something to do with her decision as well.
Besides, Carrie should never be allowed near her daughter BECAUSE SHE TRIED TO DROWN HER.
In Pakistan, Sandy's picture is splattered across the news at the same moment he sneaks off base, causing a riot* that results in Sandy being beaten to death by a mob.
Quinn turns around to protect Carrie, and the crowd grabs Sandy before either can react.
*And by riot, I mean planned attack. Then Carrie becomes obsessed with finding the culprit who plotted her co-worker's death.
Carrie convinces* CIA Director Andrew Lockhart (Tracy Letts) to give her a big promotion.
*And by convinces, I mean blackmails.
And she sets up her own team outside the station consisting of Quinn, Fara (Nazanin Boniadi), and Max (Maury Sterling).
Carrie makes it her mission to turn Haissam's nephew Aayan (Suraj Sharma) into an asset*.
*And by asset, I mean lover.
And everyone, LITERALLY EVERYONE, can see how creepy and out of line it is.
And just when you're about to stop following Aayan, or Carrie, or the show altogether...
...Haissam shows up with Saul (Mandy Patinkin) in his possession and kills his nephew point blank.
Uhhh, WHAT!?
And then Carrie tries to drop a drone on Haissam that would take out Saul in the process!
Yes, Quinn. Yes, she is.
Meanwhile, as if Carrie isn't crazy enough on her own, Ambassador Boyd's husband (Mark Moses) swaps Carrie's meds out for an undisclosed pill.
And Haissam drives freely down the street because Saul is his "human shield."
Also, Lockhart is in town to negotiate Saul's release with the Pakistani government, but half the table was responsible for Saul's kidnapping so it seems to be a tall order.
Carrie finally goes back to her apartment to take a bunch of her pills, not noticing they're different.
And she begins to get VERY agitated, like when the airport security didn't have footage of Saul at his gate the night he was taken.
Then Haissam returns to his home for the first time in years, thanks to Saul.
And all the CIA can do is watch because no one is going to drop a drone on Saul (except Carrie).
Speaking of Carrie: At this point, the pills are starting to really mess with her.
Her solution? Take some more!
And then she gets really aggressive with Aayan's girlfriend, Kiran (Shavani Seth), and the person Carrie believes is Quinn*.
*It is not really Quinn.
She's also incredibly paranoid, and begins shooting* some random guys in the street.
*She never has a gun in her hand.
All the while, poor Saul is driving with Haissam to Afghanistan in the middle of the night under the radar.
And Carrie is taken to a holding cell* by the men she couldn't kill with her fake gun, and then quickly moved to a empty mansion in a straitjacket.
*Is this where they kept Brody in Season 3? Probably not, but it has the same fly.
But Carrie has nothing to fear, because she's with her ex-lover Brody (Damian Lewis), even though he was hanged in the streets at the end of Season 3.
Even when she closes her eyes and reopens them, he's still there! And she can hug him and kiss him and ugly cry in his arms.
But of course, it isn't Brody; it's the Pakistani official Aasar (Raza Jaffrey). Brody is still dead. Carrie is just crazy.
Like, beyond crazy, as her sister (Amy Hargreaves) would say.
