Last night, the lady-representatives of the world took stage for the "national costume contest" portion of the Miss Universe pageant. As always, the totally batshit loony outfits did not disappoint.
There were harnesses—oh, were there harnesses. Here's Miss Finland swimming in hers.
Miss Czech Republic as a human saddle.
Miss Singapore in a totally sensible moon-and-shooting-star getup.
And Miss Venezuela stepping out as one *fabulous* tree.
The cultural interpretations were wonderfully kitschy.
For example: Miss Dominican Republic.
Miss India.
Miss France.
Miss Great Britain.
Miss Korea.
Miss Australia.
And Miss Spain, as sexy medieval royalty.
The theme this year seemed to be LOUD, BIG, AND MORE LOUD.
Enter: Miss Nicaragua.
Miss Ireland.
Miss Argentina.
Miss Aruba.
Miss Uruguay.
Miss Sri Lanka.
But lo and behold... Miss Canada.
She donned this very subtle, totally tasteful, super nonstereotyping homage to hockey—complete with a SCOREBOARD.
It was loved.
God bless Miss Canada.
It was hated.
