This Could Be Why Caitlyn Jenner Didn't Spell Her Name With A "K"

It signals a departure from the Kardashian empire.

Yesterday, the cover of Vanity Fair’s July issue was unveiled, and it featured the public debut of Caitlyn Jenner.

Within minutes social media was ablaze with support and praise for Caitlyn, but the same comment was made over and over again.

Why had she chosen not to spell her new name with a "K," as is tradition in the Kardashian/Jenner family?

Kris,Khloe,Kim,Kourtney,Kendall,Kylie and now Caitlyn (kinda feel it should be Kaitlyn tho)

It's no secret that Caitlyn, before coming out as transgender, was assigned the role of "whipped" husband and father throughout the many seasons of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

During one episode, Kris confiscated Caitlyn's ATM card. In another, her personal storage space was limited to just a few cupboards in the garage.

In one episode, she even left the family home for a few days because she was so tired of the lack of respect she received — only for nobody to notice. But perhaps the most demeaning moment of all was when Kris Jenner announced, at the peak of the family's success, that she was contemplating changing her name back to Kardashian.

In her interview with Vanity Fair, Caitlyn said this was the reason for her split from Kris Jenner.

Caitlyn said: "The first 15 years I felt she needed me more because I was the breadwinner. Then, really around the show, when that hit and she was running the whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn't need me as much from that standpoint. I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me. A lot of times she wasn't very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money. All that kind of stuff."

And in her coming-out interview with Diane Sawyer, a revealing point was made.

During eight years of storylines on the show, spanning from pregnancies to marriages to divorces after 72 days, to family feuds and rehab stints, it is actually Caitlyn's story that has been the most impactful.

She said: "I had the story. We'd done 435 episodes over almost eight years now, and the entire run I kept thinking to myself, Oh my god. This whole thing – the one real true story in the family – was the one I was hiding and nobody knew about it. The one thing that could make a difference in people's lives was right here in my soul, and I could not tell that story."

The irony of this is not lost.
