What The World Doesn't Understand About Britney Spears

For everyone who "doesn't get it."

So we need to have a lil' chat about something.

When Britney Spears performed at the Billboard Music Awards yesterday in her first (legit) award show live performance in years, there were some reactions that didn't make sense.

Some people just didn't get it.

Yeah, duh no shit. This isn't 2001.

It's so easy to drag famous people BUT Britney Spears is so much bigger than just some pop star.

LET ME EXPLAIN.

Almost 10 years ago, on Feb. 16, 2007, Britney Spears casually walked into a random hair salon in Tarzana, California and asked the owner to shave her head.

The owner refused to do it, so Britney took the shears and did it herself.

Literally everyone has seen this picture:

After shaving her head, Britney drove to the Body & Soul tattoo parlor and got a tattoo on her hip and wrist. When an employee at the tattoo parlor asked Britney why she shaved her head, Britney said: “I don’t want anyone touching me. I’m tired of everybody touching me.”

It was scary, tbh.

And it was fucking everywhere.

It's like everyone was watching and no one was doing anything.

ANY human would break down when faced with constant walls of cameras and criticism.

This is a picture of Britney going to a custody hearing for her kids:

It was fucked up.

Meanwhile, Britney was still going. No one was stopping her. She was a walking disaster put into situations for our entertainment.

She had one of her most disastrous live performances of her career.

She was imploding.

It was sad. And we watched it happen.

The media was literally speculating about her killing herself.

But then she got help.

The past 10 years since that breakdown has been a TIME. Britney has seemingly finally found peace in her life.

She's back to being truly happy when performing.

And that spark that made us fall in love with her almost 20 years ago is back.

So, back to Billboard. When Britney went on that red carpet it was an accomplishment.

I don't fully expect you to understand, but for Britney fans, every red carpet appearance is a victory.

Every smile feels good to see.

And every performance is an accomplishment.

That Billboard performance was so much more than just an award show performance.

It was a return to form. A fuck you to the critics. And a statement that you can come back from literally anything.

And whether you like it or not, or still don't understand, Britney will remain a true inspiration.

She is Britney fucking Spears.

She's an inspiration to anyone that you can hit the lowest lows...

And return to the highest highs.

I mean, come on. This is amazing.

Keep on being you, Britney. We love you.
