The company's flagship Toys "R" Us stores will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

“Our employees work especially hard during the holiday season and we simply believe that they deserve the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with their families. Nothing more complicated than that," a spokesperson said.

“We choose to remain closed on Thanksgiving in longstanding tradition of honoring of our customers’ and associates’ time with family,” a spokesperson for Dillard’s told ThinkProgress.

"While other retailers are competing to open doors earlier and earlier for the holidays, GameStop is 'Protecting the Family' again this year by keeping doors closed on Thanksgiving and advocating for others to do the same," a spokesperson said.

The Swedish retailer will close its U.S. stores on Thanksgiving Day.

"Ensuring a great work environment is essential for our business and continued growth, and we want our 14,000 co-workers across the U.S. to be able to enjoy the day celebrating with family and friends," a spokesperson said.

“We ask a lot from our Team Members during the holidays, and Thanksgiving Day is a valued tradition for many families,” said Travis Smith, chief executive officer and president of Jo-Ann Stores, in a statement to Mental Floss last year.

"We just like the idea of celebrating one holiday at a time," the store said in a flier.

“It’s a holiday — we’re closed!” a spokesperson said.

In addition to being closed on Thanksgiving, REI will also be closed on Black Friday and is leading the social media campaign #OptOutside to encourage activities other than shopping.

“We consider ourselves an Associate-friendly Company, and, we are pleased to give our Associates the time to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends,” a spokesperson for TJX stores told Think Progress in a statement last year.
