Here's something you don't see every day: legendary hip hop group Public Enemy getting a lift to an arena gig in the back of a Ford Focus.
Photographer and Public Enemy fan Kevin Wells, 50, had popped into the Record Collector store in Sheffield’s Broomhill district on Sunday, where the band were signing autographs.
The band had booked a car for 6:30pm but it left before they had finished. So Wells stepped in to offer them a lift in his mid-range family car. "They were such nice guys, we had a right laugh," he said.
He told the Sheffield Star:
"People started panicking and looking for someone to drive, so I volunteered.
"We were chatting away, but the phone was constantly going as their management were clearly worried.
"Then as we were coming through Attercliffe, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen came on the radio.
"Everyone was singing the words and rocking out in the back of my car, it was like a Wayne's World moment. "I was looking in the rear view mirror thinking, 'is this actually happening?'"
The band made the gig at the Motorpoint Arena with 15 minutes to go until stage time, and Kevin went off to take photos at a Scouting for Girls gig elsewhere in the city.
