Nine Treehouses That Will Please Your Inner Child

This very cute treehouse was inspired by the Lewis Carroll stories, in which Alice falls down the rabbit hole and experiences all sorts of weird and wonderful things.

The windows are wonky, the door is squint...you would have to be half mad to dream this up.

This impressive treehouse isn't suitable for any acrophobics in the audience.

You would need a good head for heights and lofty ambitions to make it to the top level of this treetop fortress.

This eclectic treehouse has been the ongoing project of an American named Steve Rondel for the last twenty years.

While it might not be the safest-looking treehouse on the list it is certainly unique and very atmospheric.

Possibly one of the most impressive treehouses on this list. Built after Birr Castle in Ireland decided that it didn't have enough castle to go around, and so a new wooden castle was built. And the people rejoiced.

In Center Parcs three luxury treehouses were completed in 2011 and they are very exciting for two main reasons.

Firstly, they were built in Sherwood Forest, presumably by a group of men in tights battling an evil sheriff. It's amazing they found the time.

Secondly, these are the only treehouses on this list that you can actually stay in and have a taste of literally living the highlife.

This treehouse may seem quite ordinary, but it harbours an awesome secret.

Inspired by the high-tech world of James Bond this treehouse has a home cinema and sound system, but that is not all.

It also has CCTV monitoring with five nightvision cameras, which can be adjusted from a control centre (see below) which looks like it has come straight out of pretty much every spy movie ever.

And how does one gain entry to this fortress-like treehouse, I hear you ask? Fingerprint recognition that's how!

This aptly named treehouse makes it onto the list for one main reason:

Perfect for sitting around swapping ghost stories, hatching dragons or maybe just roasting some marshmallows. Also extremely useful during the bone-chilling nights of the British "summer".

While those giant mushrooms may be fake the treehouse is thankfully real, and forms part of The Enchanted Forest, an outdoor adventure park in British Columbia.

This fairytale treehouse would make any prince or princess the luckiest in the land.

The huge arched Gothic window is just perfect for surveying your kingdom, or maybe some light peasant-spotting, and the whole treehouse is built around one mysterious old tree (which may well come to life and talk like the tree in Pocahontas, we'll never know for sure).

And that slightly unsafe-looking gap in the fence? Just the start of a 45m zipwire, no big deal.
