18 Reasons That Postcards Are The Best Souvenirs Ever, Period.

Magnets, I'm really happy for you and I'll let you finish. But postcards are the best souvenirs of all time!

    1. Captain Obvious here: Postcards take up ZERO room in your suitcase.

    2. If they get lost, it's not your fault.

    3. They're inexpensive.

    4. You can't get more personal.

    5. They (almost) make up for those times when you forgot to call your mom.

    6. They allow all kinds of contraband.

    7. And manage to evade Customs.

    8. Handmade ones showcase your mad artistic skillz.

    9. And hearken back to childhood.

    10. Like that exchange student, they speak foreign languages.

    11. They're more stylish than that any tourist trap t-shirt.

    12. HELLO! What other souvenir would allow for a WAX SEAL?

    13. PostSecret is more clandestine than the NSA.

    14. They offer friends in high places...

    15. ... and if you're into Postcrossing, like-minded strangers with the same unusual hobbies.

    16. They also forge connections with strangers you WISH were your friends.

(Though because it was Colbert, this was the front:)

    17. For me, postcards are far more than paper. In 2013, work propelled me through 18 countries. On my first day abroad, my father died. The 102 postcards that I wrote in the aftermath were a reminder that I wasn't alone. They're some of the ones you see here

    18. One more thing: They make great movie stars. My work-in-progress documentary short, Wish You Were Here, puts postcards front and center as it explores what remains when we lose the ones we lose the ones we love.
