A city in China called Chongqing has come up with one solution to the global peril of walking-while-texting: An entirely separate sidewalk section for cellphone-using pedestrians.
"Cellphones walk in this lane at your own risk."
They have even put up instructions on how to use "China's First Cellphone Lane."
It's become a bit of a tourist attraction.
Chongqing might have gotten the idea from the National Geographic TV channel, which in July painted very similar sidewalk-instructions on 18th Street in Washington, D.C. as part of a crowd behavior experiment, The Guardian reported.
But Chongqing appears to be taking it much more seriously. "WALK IN THIS LANE AT YOUR OWN RISK."
