    If you are poor, you are less likely to get good grades. As children all over the country go back to school, JRF Research Manager Helen Barnard tells you all you need to know about the state of poverty and education in the UK.

    1. Educational disadvantage starts early

    2. By age 11 the gap between rich and poor remains

    3. Unsurprisingly, this is reflected in GCSE results

    4. And then those pupils are less likely to gain employment

    5. They are also much more likely to be low paid

    6. And then the cycle begins again

    7. While those from high income backgrounds are far more likely to have high incomes as adults
