J.K. Rowling Has Responded Perfectly To Critics Of The "Harry Potter" Play Cast

"Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified."

In case you missed it, on Sunday night it was revealed that actor Noma Dumezweni has been cast as Hermione Weasley in the upcoming West End play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Though Hermione was played by Emma Watson in the film adaptations of J.K. Rowling's series, it has been pointed out that the character's race was never specified in the books.

After the casting announcement, the author was quoted on her website, Pottermore, saying that she was "so excited" with the choice:

I'm so excited with the choice of casting for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I can't wait to see Jamie, Noma, and Paul bring the adult Harry, Hermione, and Ron to life on stage next summer.

But JKR has now taken to Twitter to express her feelings about the new Hermione.

Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione 😘 https://t.co/5fKX4InjTH

Actor Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the film adaptations, also tweeted his support for Dumezweni.

And Neville Longbottom was blonde. I really don't care. Good luck to her. https://t.co/0JNjK3Pe0V

So, there we have it: Rowling loves black Hermione. 😘😘😘
