What To Always Keep When Moving In Together

Moving in together is a very big step. Whether it's because you taking that next step forward in your relationship, or you've just said I do. Now that you're living together, you'll learn even more about this person and all their ins and outs. Which can seem scary at times, but also very exciting.

One important thing that comes with moving in together is how you’re going to rearrange all of your stuff. Do you keep all of your stuff and get rid of theirs? Do you go half-and-half? Well, only you and your partner can make that decision, but there are a few things that you both should always keep moving in together. In this article we will give you a list of things that that we think are important to hold onto.

    Heirlooms

The first thing that you should never get rid of when moving in together are heirlooms. First of all, these are life long family mementos that have been your family for possibly generations. To get rid of these would not only lead to major resentment down the road, but you'd also be giving away a part of yourself. So, skip out on the drama and keep your family heirlooms when you all move in.

    His Stuff, Her Stuff

    Lamps

Okay let's be honest. Lamps are something that you can always use. So, don't get rid of any of the lamps. Instead, keep them. And if you really hate his lampshade her lampshade, you can either replace it, or make it a nice DIY craft and redo it.

    Artwork

Again, artwork is something that always has a place. So, don't get rid of your favorite pieces. Rather, try to incorporate them in different parts of your house. After all, you never know how their piece of artwork you though you didn’t like will actually look against your faux brick wall. You may find you actually like it. You both are now trying to blend two lives into one, and combining artwork is a great way to incorporate both of your tastes and bring your lives into unison.

    Furniture

This one may not necessarily be you have to keep it, but you should definitely ask before assuming that you're just going to pitch their furniture. Make sure they feel heard and respected, and together decide which furniture pieces you'll keep and which shall get rid of. And if they absolutely just have to have that sofa chair, maybe compromise and put a sip lip cover on it. That way they have their chair, and you have your pulled together room.

    Your Partner’s Furniture

This one may not necessarily be you have to keep it, but you should definitely ask before assuming that you're just going to pitch their furniture. Make sure they feel heard and respected, and together decide which furniture pieces you'll keep and which shall get rid of. And if they absolutely just have to have that sofa chair, maybe compromise and put a sip lip cover on it. That way they have their chair, and you have your pulled together room.

    Collections

If you or your partner has a collection of something, it's probably because you've been collecting it over a long period of time. So, don't get rid of either collection and instead do your best to find a place for them in your new living space. Whether this means to display them for all to see, or letting them have a space in the closet. Collections are personal, and shouldn't have to be forfeited just because you now share space.
