Here's Why Selena Gomez's "Bad Liar" Sounds So Damn Familiar

    It samples a classic!

Selena Gomez's new song "Bad Liar" just came out and it's catchy AF.

But from the minute it starts, the bassline sounds super familiar. Which it SHOULD because it's actually a sample of "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads.

In an interview with Variety, one of the song writers, Justin Tranter, revealed that Selena and Julia Michaels (who also co-wrote the jam) are *obsessed* with the Talking Heads and the whole thing went down like this:

Selena and Julia are Talking Heads-obsessed. So when we all got together in one room, Julia suggested, ‘Why don’t we just write over the bassline from ‘Psycho Killer?’ and we were all going, ‘That sounds great!’”

Don't worry, the Talking Heads are flattered by the whole thing. Drummer Chris Frantz had nothing but praise for the song:

So great to hear the legacy of our song, "Psycho Killer," and Tina’s legendary style of bass playing, quoted so prominently. Was a big surprise and a delight to learn that a new generation is getting introduced to both.

    Mystery solved!

Now that you know, feel free to proceed with your binge-listening.
