First to draft a transgender policy, first justice board for transgenders, first transgender school and café, first to offer free sex reassignment surgeries and so much more.

1. First things first, Kerala has the highest sex ratio in India according to the 2011 census.

2. It was the first state to unveil a transgender policy in 2015.

3. Later, it also became the first state in the country to have pension plans for transgender persons above 60 in the 2016-17 budget.

4. Just last week, the government announced job reservations for 23 transgender persons in the Kochi metro rail project starting next year.

5. The government has also offered free sex reassignment surgeries at government hospitals.

6. Not just that, they also have a justice board for the welfare of transgenders.

7. And they have become the first state to set up a registry for sex offenders.

8. The state also saw India's first gender neutral football league that comprises players of every gender.

9. The first transgender athletics meet was also held here.

10. The state has taxis operated and owned by women called "Shetaxis". After the success of that initiative, the government also announced "G-Taxis" for transgender persons.
