That Sparring Scene Between Arya And Brienne Is Actually More Impressive Than You Think — Here's Why

Maisie Williams: the many-faced (and ambidextrous) goddess.

So, let's take a moment to revisit the most recent Game of Thrones episode, "The Spoils of War."

Now, if you're all caught up, then you're probably still recovering from some of the most epic scenes we've seen on Game of Thrones yet — not least of which was that badass sparring scene between Arya and Brienne.

Because it was pretty fucking awesome to see Arya demonstrate a lot of moves she's picked up over the years while training with experts like Syrio Forel...

...as well as Jaqen H'ghar (and the Waif).

But, there's actually a crazy thing about Maisie's sword-fighting that I just learned.

It turns out, while Arya fights left-handed on the show (and in the books), Maisie Williams herself is actually RIGHT-HANDED in real life — which made me shout "WAIT. WHAT?!"

And in a past interview with TV Guide Maisie explained,

I'm right-handed, and when Mom was reading the first book, she told me about Arya being left-handed. From then on, I was like, "Alright, I'm going to try to do everything left-handed." When I was practicing out in the garden and things I would do left-handed just to feel that rhythm.

She also went on to say that sometimes things were "too tricky" for her during filming and she couldn't do everything left-handed.
