These Guys Just Came Up With An Innovative Solution For The Worst Problem In Beer Pong

They're looking out for your balls.

Beer pong is basically a staple for any party where Solo cups are present. But too often the ball will miss the cup and roll around on the floor, leading the game to go from this...

To this. 😕

Now a group of mostly twentysomething brothers from Connecticut are hoping to revolutionize the drinking game to make it more sanitary and less gross with their new invention: Slip Cup.

Slip Cup is pretty simple: It's a set of small cups that fit into 16- or 18-ounce drinking cups to catch the ball and prevent it from tainting the delicious drink inside.

Beyond causing you to drink grime, the beer in beer pong can also be filled with bacteria. The guys cite a 2013 study by a group of Clemson University students who tested Ping-Pong balls used in beer pong games and found they can carry bacteria like salmonella, listeria, E. coli, and staph into the beer.

Co-founder Chase Treibt told BuzzFeed News he was inspired after he played a drinking game in a friend's basement and "drank a nasty hair."

"I thought there has to be a better way for beer pong other than water pong," he said, adding that he also wanted to work on a project with his four brothers, Cole, Kade, Travis, and Trevor. The bros spent eight months developing the beer breakthrough.

The protective cups are bro-gineered so that you can still put your beer in a cup, but are deep enough and have catchers so that the ball doesn't bounce outside of the cup once it lands.

They're also centered-weighted to prevent the cup from being knocked over, and made with slim rims so as not to interfere with the shot.

The guys' Kickstarter launched on June 29 and made over $45,000 of its $70,000 goal by the afternoon of July 7.

Treibt is hoping the cups will retail for $3 to $5.

"There's some kind of magic when you play regular beer pong," Treibt told BuzzFeed, "and I think people are excited to get that back without having the hair in their beer."
