23 Parents Share The Time Their Kid Saw A Ghost, And I Am NOT OK

"I was putting my 3-year-old to bed, when he looked over my shoulder at nothing, and said, 'Go away. This is my house.'"

Not too long ago, we shared a series of posts in which parents shared the time their kid saw a ghost (see them here and here) and they gave us all the chills. Here are the most memorable responses, along with a few new ones from our readers that are equally as horrifying:

    1. "My 4-year-old kept freaking out about his closet — he would refuse to go into his room if the closet door was open, and would always have me close it first. He's autistic and struggles with communicating, so he had a hard time explaining to me what was scaring him inside. But when I finally got him to answer me, he simply said, 'The chef.'"

    2. "Not long ago, I was putting my 3-year-old to bed when he looked over my shoulder and asked, 'Mom, who are they?' I looked, and of course, no one was there. But then my son said, 'Go away. This is my house,' before falling asleep."

    3. "When I was a kid, we had a rocking chair in our house, and there was always an old lady sitting in it. I would talk to her for hours at a time, and my mother never said a thing about it, until a few years ago when we were talking about memories from our old house. I told her I missed the old lady who lived with us, and she responded that there was no old lady..."

"So I grabbed a photo album to show her who I was talking about, and she smiled and said, 'That's your dad's grandmother. She really wanted to meet you, but died before you were born.' I freaked out and told her I was pretty sure I'd talked to her in the rocking chair. My mom replied, 'We didn't have a rocking chair. But she did.'"

    4. "Once, my son asked me, 'Who's that at the window?' We were on the second floor."

    5. "We lived in a house on six acres of wooded, swampy land with our 2-year-old son. One day, after a ride through the woods with my husband, my son started talking about 'Courtney.' We didn't know anyone with that name, so we figured it was just an imaginary friend. But then he started saying that Courtney was a little girl who was trapped under the swamp and was never rescued."

"Courtney never came into our house, but whenever our son was playing outside, he would walk right over to the trees and talk to her. We moved out of the house two years later, and our son was hysterically upset that Courtney was still trapped in that swamp."

    6. "When I was a child, I was often awakened at night by a bald man crouching in the corner of my room. He was holding a knife covered in blood, and mumbling about 'killing them all.' My parents and sister never saw him, but they did tell me that the previous owners of our house had all either died or committed suicide there."

    7. "We live in a home in which a 103-year-old man died, and my 3-year-old daughter is constantly talking into the mirrors around the house. When I ask who she's talking to, she always answers, 'The neighbor.'"

    8. "When my daughter was 3 years old, she started telling us that she was being woken up in the night by a man who kept tickling her feet. But she said it didn’t scare her because he was always smiling..."

"We figured she was just dreaming until we came across an old picture of my grandparents on their wedding day and my daughter pointed at my grandfather and said, ‘That’s him! That’s the man who tickles my feet!’ My grandfather passed away when I was 6."

    9. "When I was a kid, I would always see a nice man in our yard waving to me and checking out the fruit trees in our garden, but no one else saw him. Later, I found out that the man who lived in our house before us died while taking a nap in his favorite spot in the yard...which overlooked his garden."

    10. "I used to babysit newborn twins, and unfortunately, one of the twins passed away. Well, the twin who lived would often fixate on a spot in the ceiling, smile, and coo. After a few minutes, his eyes would move across the ceiling, following something. And as that 'something' moved farther and farther away, he would begin to cry. We always knew it was his twin."

    11. "We were house hunting, and we toured a house with a big backyard with a detached garage. After we left, I asked my son what he thought of the house. He said simply, 'We can't live there. There are ghosts screaming in the yard.'"

    12. "My mom and her siblings grew up in a 100-year-old house, and they said they’d always see a ‘green lady’ standing next to the linen closet or peeking in their rooms at night when they were supposed to be sleeping. Well, it wasn't until years later — after my grandfather died — that my grandmother admitted that she had always seen a 'green girl' around the house too..."

"My grandfather died when he sleepwalked and fell down the stairs in the middle of the night, and my grandmother said she thinks the 'green girl' scared him into falling. And 10 years later, I still won’t sleep at that house."

    13. "One day, I overheard my daughter — who was alone in the playroom — say to someone, 'OK, I'll draw you. But I need to find the red. You have blood in your hair.'"

    14. "When my nephew was about 4 years old, I gave him a bath one night. He would only let me lather him with soap if I let him hold the detachable shower head, so I did. However, every few seconds, he'd spray water over my left shoulder. I told him to stop because he was getting the floor wet..."

"Well, he didn't listen to me, and finally, I snatched the shower head out of his hands. He made a sad face and said, 'Auntie, don't be mad — I was just keeping the man away from you.' Then he pointed behind me...and there was no one there."

    15. "When my sister was little, she was babysat by a family friend who lost her husband, Paul, suddenly before my sister was born. My sister had never heard about him before. But one day, our babysitter heard my sister laughing and playing alone in the basement playroom. She called out to my sister and asked who she was talking to. So my sister came upstairs and replied, 'Paul was downstairs. He says hi, and that he's OK.'"

    16. "One day, bread flew out of the cabinet out of nowhere. I said, 'What the heck?!' and my daughter replied, 'I see you've finally met the cabinet ghost. He does that all the time.'"

    17. "When my niece was really young, she would always talk about seeing 'Woody with the mean glasses' around my mom's house. Turns out the police officer who killed himself in that house years before looked just like Woody from Toy Story...with thick-rimmed glasses."

    18. "My grandmother passed away when my mom was 17, and my mom told me that once when I was 2 or 3, I kept talking to the empty seat next to my car seat in the car. When my mom asked me who I was talking to, I called her by her first name and said, 'Granny loves you.' My mom started crying and I didn't know why."

    19. "I was babysitting my 3-year-old niece alone when I heard her moving around at 2 a.m. I went to go tuck her back into bed, and as I crouched down, she stopped, looked me dead in the eye, and said, 'The man in the closet doesn't like you.'"

    20. "When my son was 3, we were visiting one of my friends at her new house, when all of a sudden, I saw my son say 'Hello!' and wave at someone upstairs. I asked who he was talking to, and he said, 'The man upstairs.' I asked him, 'Did the man say hello back?' and he replied, 'No. He has no mouth.'"

    21. "I was babysitting my friend's toddler, who was playing in her room and talking to herself while I made dinner. I didn't pay it any mind until I heard her say, 'I said, STOP!' So I went to check on her and asked who she was talking to..."

    22. "When I was a kid, I used to play for hours with someone I thought was an imaginary friend only I could see. One day, my mom asked who I was talking to, and I told her my brother. She turned white and left the room. When I said the same thing to my dad, he got really mad and sternly told me to NEVER do that again. And I never saw my 'brother' again after that..."

"Well, fast-forward 10 years later: When I was snooping through the family bible, I found an entry showing that I did indeed have a brother. He died a year before I was born."

    23. "When I was younger, I used to dream about a little boy who lived in our bathroom who whore a striped blue and white T-shirt. It didn't feel like a nightmare, because we would just make small talk while I was on the toilet, but I told my parents about it because it was weird to keep having that same dream..."
