Here's Why "One Day At A Time" Deserves To Be Saved By Someone

Netflix may have cancelled the series, but someone can still save it.

Today, Netflix announced that they would be cancelling One Day at a Time after three seasons.

We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day At A Time for a fourth season. The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season.

The series, which follows a Cuban-American family as they deal with life's everyday problems, has been critically-acclaimed and hailed as one of the best sitcoms on TV.

One of the many strengths the show has is that it gives a voice to both the Latino and LGBT communities, two groups that are often marginalized on TV.

And while Netflix may have cancelled it, in today's world of TV shows being saved from cancellation, I'm making a plea that someone saves this important series.

So, yeah, that was more a self-pep talk. But I wanted to share it with you. Luckily, I believe in miracles. So, maybe we’ll find a home somewhere else. I hope we do cause @mikeroyce & I have a lot more for these wonderful characters to do.

I passionately wrote about this show when it was in danger, so I'm here again to remind you of some of the many moments that prove why One Day at a Time deserves a second chance:

    1. First, when Alex was bullied while on a field trip and it led to this important conversation.

    2. And then, when Alex heartbreakingly told Penelope that he didn't want to be different.

    3. When Elena finally worked up the courage to come out to Penelope.

    4. When Lydia, who is very religious, came to terms with Elena's sexuality in this brilliant scene.

    5. When Penelope left herself this voice message and was honest about how much her depression affects her every day.

    6. And then, when Penelope sat Alex and Elena down and explained that she deals with anxiety and depression.

    7. When Schneider learned how to be an ally for Syd and Elena.

    8. When Elena came face-to-face with her dad after he refused to accept her after she came out.

    9. When Penelope always put her children first, no matter what.

    10. When everyone danced with Elena at her Quinceañera during the father-daughter dance after her dad refused to.

    11. When Schneider heartbreakingly thanked Lydia for being there when no one else was.

    12. When the family had an open and honest conversation about consensual sex after Alex posted some inappropriate photos on Instagram.

    13. When Lydia explained the reason why she thinks it's important to go to church.

    14. When Elena tried to explain what mansplaining is, but Schneider interrupted.

    15. When Lydia explained the heartbreaking reason why she didn't want to become a US citizen.

    16. When Penelope thanked her cousin Estrellita for writing letters to her while she was in the Army.

    17. When Schneider broke his sobriety and was worried that Penelope would never trust him again.

    18. When Elena's best friend Carmen revealed that her parents had been deported and she was living alone.

    19. When Penelope confided in Ramona about Elena having sex and how she genuinely didn't know what to teach her lesbian daughter.

    20. When Elena gave Syd a non-binary Valentine's Day card to show how much she loved them.

    21. When Pilar came out to Elena and told her how important it was to be confident in yourself and forget about what others might thing.

    22. When Lydia made any kind of entrance and wasn't afraid to be a strong, sexy, and confident older woman.

    23. When Penelope found a way to compliment Elena in her own way.

    24. When Penelope finally earned her degree after hours of hard work and sacrifice.

    25. And finally, when the Alvarez family supported Alex the best way they knew how.

So, please, I'm just one of so many people that adore this show and believe that there are more stories that need to be told.

Somebody PLEASE save this show before we make a horrible mistake and lose it forever!
