"Oliver & Company" Is The Most Underrated Disney Movie Of All Time

"Why should I worry? Why should I care?"

Disney has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Plus, I grew up during the BEST era for their movies: the '90s (The Lion King, Toy Story, Mulan, Aladdin, etc.).

And at 27 years old, l still love the films they're putting out. But as Disney continues to remain a topic of conversation, I can't help but notice one movie that keeps getting left out: Oliver & Company.

Which makes me believe Oliver & Company is the most UNDERRATED, UNDERVALUED, and UNDERESTIMATED Disney movie of all time!

Just last week, I was having a discussion with my co-workers about Disney and wanted to know if they'd seen the 1988 classic. This is the response I got from everyone in the room, even a Florida native who eats, sleeps, and breathes Disney:

Now don't get me wrong, the bigger names deserve all the respect and acknowledgments they've been receiving, BUT WHAT Y'ALL ARE NOT GONNA DO is act like Oliver & Company was anything less than great!

If you also aren't familiar with the film, here's a few reasons why you've been missing out:

    1. The storyline was inspired by the Charles Dickens classic, Oliver Twist. And instead of an orphan boy, Oliver is a stray cat.

    2. And if you're not a cat person (which I'm not), this movie will immediately transform your annoyance of the feline species to uncontrollable love after seeing the main character, Oliver.

    3. But don't worry, there are still plenty of dogs in this movie to go around. Oliver joins a group of misfit canines in order to help him survive the streets of New York.

The only cats I vibe with are Oliver from “Oliver & Company” and Sassy from “Homeward Bound!” Don’t come at me about no damn cats! https://t.co/Uegfsb5O0K

    4. The themes in the movie will make you cry, like learning that you can be rich with happiness even if you're lacking financially.

    5. Okay let's keep it real, that won't be the only reason you'll cry.

    6. But there are plenty of reasons to smile, like the amazing soundtrack!

    7. That's right, the legend that is Billy Joel gave us one of the best feel-good songs to ever hit an animated movie: "Why Should I Worry."

    8. And Bette Middler held us down with an anthem about feeling yourself, before Beyoncé hit us with "Flawless."

Some days I relate a little too much to the Bette Midler poodle from Oliver and Company.

    9. It literally provided inspiration in every form.

    10. There are literally relatable moods in every scene. Georgette can't be the only one who's had a day where grooming is the ultimate struggle.

looking in the mirror after a few days of being stuck in the house not brushing your hair feels a lot like Georgette’s scene in Oliver & Company. girl we’ve got work to do https://t.co/zYnXWIdh6L

    11. And did I mention the cast of voice actors is basically a lineup of Hollywood greats?

    12. Honestly, there's no need to beat around the bush anymore. This movie will push you to become a better person.

    13. In conclusion, put some respect on Oliver & Company's name!
