50 TV Shows That Are Premiering And Returning In Fall 2022 That Are Worth Checking Out

The Game of Thrones universe is expanding with House of the Dragon, a prequel series that takes us into the events of George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood novel. Set almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, this new series marks the beginning of the end of House Targaryen as we watch everything that unfolded leading up to and during the "Dance of the Dragons." While a lot of us — myself included — were skeptical about diving into a new GoT show after the series finale of the original, I have to say, this show is everything I could've hoped for and more.

The best new show of last year returns for its sophomore season, and I've really just missed the absolute joy this series brings me. It's a new year at Abbott Elementary as Janine, Gregory, Ava, Melissa, Jacob, and Barbara try once again to navigate their lives at teachers. Following the Season 1 finale, Janine is staying at the school and so is Gregory, and I'm just excited to see where Emmy Award WINNER Quinta Brunson and the amazing writers take these characters this season.

When it returns: Sept. 21 on ABC

Okay, if you live in the UK you've already seen the final season of Derry Girls, but for us over here in the US, we finally get to experience the magic of new episodes when it hits Netflix this fall. This incredible (and underrated) show kicks off its final batch of episodes with Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle, and James just trying to survive school and rise to the top of their social scene. While I'm sad to see this show end so soon, I can't wait to enjoy its final send-off.

The second season of this Emmy Award-winning series kicks off this fall with a brand-new cast. The White Lotus Season 2 is set to take place in Sicily, where chaos is bound to ensue at this overseas White Lotus location. This season will also focus on the roles between lovers and friends. While the Season 1 cast may be gone, Jennifer Coolidge will be back to reprise her Emmy-winning role as Tanya, and I can't wait to see what she gives us this time.

J. R. R Tolkien's beautiful and elaborate fantasy realm comes to TV with Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Set thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, this takes fans back to the days where great powers were forged, and kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin. The series follows a group of unlikely heroes who are tested as one of the greatest villains in the fantasy genre threatens to cover the world in darkness.

The Crown will continue this fall as we enter a new era of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. This season will take us into the 1990s, and will detail some of the biggest moments for the British monarchy, including the John Major government years, the tumultuous ending of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage, and more. Imelda Staunton takes over as Queen Elizabeth II, while Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Dominic West, Elizabeth Debicki, and more join the cast too.

When it returns: Nov. 2022 on Netflix

Grey's Anatomy returns for another season this fall, but things are going to look slightly different at Grey Sloan. Following the suspension of their usual residency program, Grey Sloan is taking a chance on interns that might not have been placed otherwise. Enter a new group of interns that include actors Harry Shum Jr., Adelaide Kane, Midori Francis, Niko Terho, and Alexis Floyd. Also, Ellen Pompeo will take a step back from Grey's this season, as she will only appear in eight episodes over the course of the 22 episodes. Oh, and Kate Walsh is returning as Addison Montgomery.

When it returns: Oct. 6 on ABC

While it has been over two years since we got the second season of this show, the final season of Dead to Me will be hitting our screens this fall. While I'm not ready to say goodbye to Jen and Judy just yet, I know that Liz Feldman and the team have likely put together a master class final season. Season 2 ended on a big of a cliffhanger, so Season 3 will likely pick up right after with more chaos and comedy than ever before.

When it returns: Fall 2022 on Netflix

The newest Star Wars series on Disney+ picks up five years before the events of Rogue One, as we follow Cassian Andor and others during the time that a Rebel Alliance was beginning to form against the Empire. We'll watch as Cassian goes from a thief to the determined (and lovable) revolutionary who eventually joins the Rebellion.

One of the best new shows of last year returns with Season 2 this fall, and I couldn't be more excited. The new season of Ghosts will continue to follow Sam and Jay as they try to get their bed and breakfast up and running, while also dealing with the amazing ensemble of ghosts that live in their house. This show is so special, so if you haven't watched Season 1 yet, now is the time. 

When it returns: Sept. 29 on CBS

The Criminal Minds family is back when this reboot kicks off this fall. The series will follow the FBI's elite team of criminal profilers as they come up against one of their biggest threats yet, an UnSub who has used the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers. As the world opens back up, the team now must hunt down these killers one by one. A lot of original cast members are returns; however, we will miss Matthew Gray Gubler as Spencer Reid.

This spooky series follows Wednesday Addams and her years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Basically, we're getting The Addams Family as a teen drama filled with supernatural mystery, and I couldn't be more excited. Wednesday will focus on Wednesday's attempt to master her emerging psychic abilities, as she tries to solve a supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago. I, for one, am pumped.

From the creator of Modern Family, this hilarious new series pokes fun at a TV trend we all can't help but love: rebooting a beloved family sitcom. Reboot tells the story of a cast of a 2000s family sitcom who are suddenly brought back together to try to rekindle the magic their show once had, all while dealing with their own problems.

Honestly, I couldn't be more excited that this show is coming back for Season 2 soon. The Sex Lives of College Girls is back with their sophomore season, and we'll pick up basically where we left off in Season 1. Kimberly, Whitney, Leighton, and Bela are really just trying to survive college, while also dealing with their complicated social lives. This season will focus on the rest of their freshman years too.

When it returns: Fall 2022 on HBO Max

This fall NBC is rebooting the iconic Quantum Leap series, and it's definitely something you'll want to check out. A new team, led by Ben Song, has assembled to restart the Quantum Leap project in hopes of understanding the mysteries surrounding it. However, everything changes when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it.

As June, Luke, and Moira fight Gilead, Serena is trying to raise her profile in Toronto, as Gilead's influence slowly starts to creep over the boarder.

When it returned: Sept. 14 on Hulu

Since being saved from cancellation, Manifest will make its Netflix debut with this final season, which will be split into two parts. The new season will continue the mystery surrounding Flight 828, but this time we're dealing with a bit of a time jump. Season 4 will pick up two years after the tragedy involving Grace, as the Stone family tries to pick up the pieces of their lives. The last season was an emotional roller coaster, so I'm just gearing up for more chaos when Manifest returns this fall.

When it returns: Nov. 4 on Netflix

Inspired by the memoir From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home, this new limited series follows the love story between Amy, an American student studying abroad in Italy, and Lina, a Sicilian chef. Their whirlwind romance faces several unforeseen challenges, including their very different culture backgrounds.

While Ramy abandons his spiritual journey, he's now decided to dedicate himself to him and his uncle's diamond business this time around.

When it returns: Sept. 30 on Hulu

The Dutton family is back when Yellowstone returns for a fifth season this November. While Season 4 was anything but calm, this new season promises more chaos and drama as the Dutton family chooses sides and alliances shift. While maintaining the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the US remains the top priority, it looks like the Duttons will be fighting even more battles amongst each other as well.

When it returns: Nov. 13 on Paramount Network

This beloved and underrated series returns with Season 3 soon, and if you haven't caught up on it yet, what are you waiting for? This new season of Mythic Quest will pick up with Ian and Poppy navigating the gaming world as their partnership at the newly formed GrimPop Studios takes off. Meanwhile, back at Mythic Quest, David settles into his new role as boss, but finds out that the job is harder than he imagined.

When it returns: Fall 2022 on Apple TV+

The fourth and final season of Atlanta hits our screen this fall, and this time we are headed back to Atlanta for one last journey. This newest season finds Earn, Paper Boi, Darius, and Van back in their hometown, but the question they face is whether Atlanta has changed or have they?

The newest season of this hit Netflix series returned in September, and things are heating up for Daniel, Johnny, Miguel, Robby, Mary, and more. Following the shocking results of the All Valley Tournament, Terry Silver is now expanding the Cobra Kai empire, as he tries to make the "No Mercy" style of karate the only thing in town. With Kreese in jail, Johnny has decided to set his karate aside, but Daniel ends up needing his help sooner rather than later.

Annie Murphy returns in the final season of this short-lived but brilliant series. Once again, Allison and Patty are dealing with a lot. As they scramble to deal with Neil, Allison is pushed to find a better way out of her horrible marriage.

When it returned: Aug. 22 on AMC and AMC+

It's going to be sad to see this show go, but I'm ready for an amazing ride to the finish line. The sixth and final season of The Good Fight follows Diane as she's struggling with an uneasy sense of déjà vu. With everything from Roe v. Wade to voting rights and more, Diane is struggling to just keep everything together. Meanwhile, the lawyers at Reddick & Associates are wondering how everything around them will impact themselves and the world at large.

When it returned: Sept. 8 on Paramount+

The final — yes, FINAL — part of the final season of The Walking Dead kicks off this October, and it's time to see how Daryl, Carol, Maggie, Negan, and the rest of our favorite team band together one last time. This show has gone through a lot over its 11-season run, but everything will lead to this final showdown. While The Walking Dead is ending, there are several spinoffs in the works, so if you aren't ready to say goodbye just yet, there will be more to watch soon.

Lost star Matthew Fox makes his return to TV in this new series this fall. Last Light follows Andy, who soon realizes while on a business trip to the Middle East that something is wrong with the world's oil supply, which sets off a chain reaction. The world of Supernatural returns with this spinoff series from Jensen and Danneel Ackles. The Winchesters will take fans of the original show back in time as Dean Winchester narrates the story of how his parents, John Winchester and Mary Campbell, met, fell in love, and fought monsters together, all while searching for their missing fathers.

Once there, a series of bizarre and unsolved murder begins to take shape as their intertwined history is more complicated than they realize.

This bonkers comedy finally returns with Season 2 this October, and we really hit the ground running. While manning a luxury spacecraft owned by Herman Judd, Captain Ryan Clark finds himself in over his head. Picking up five months after failing to reroute the vessel, this new season follows the crew as they struggle to lead, calm, control, and, in some cases, hide from the unruly passengers they are now stuck with.

Fate: The Winx Saga returns with Season 2, and school is back in session for these fairies. The new school year begins under the very strict authority of Alfea's former headmistress Rosalind. But, when fairies start to go missing, Bloom and her friends discover that a dangerous threat is lurking a lot closer than they think.

This new Netflix YA series follows two best friends who accidentally build — and then, of course, lose — one of the largest fake ID empires in North America. As the duo have more cash than they could have ever dreamed possible, life seems pretty great, until they are raided by the feds and one of them goes to jail while the other walks away. Fakes follows what happens after you lose it all as the audience tries to figure out which BFF is actually telling the truth.
